Birds glide passed Kansas City, set for Twins

    

  The Cardinals swept away the Kansas City Royals this weekend in a rain-shortened series. Sunday’s game, the final scheduled game of the season between the innerstate rivals, was postponed due to the weather after a two and a half hour-long delay. Anyways, I’ll take you through the two games they were able to play and tell you what’s next! 

  Prior to the starting of Friday night’s game, Cardinals’ RHP Lance Lynn landed on the 15-Day disabled list due to a forearm strain. His next start was slated for Saturday afternoon. LHP Tyler Lyons was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to answer the call.. 

  Game one of the series was started by Yordano Ventura and Jaime Garcia. The Cardinals beat the Royals, 4-0, and gave Jaime a well-deserved victory. He pitched eight scoreless innings against KC and allowed only four hits, all of them in the infield. Centerfielder Jon Jay was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. 

  The second, and later final, game of the series was started by Jeremy Guthrie and Tyler Lyons. The Redbirds won the ballgame 3-2. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez each hit solo home runs off of Lyons. Mark Reynolds hit his fourth of the year, which proved to be the game winner. Trevor Rosenthal picked up save number twenty-one on the season. 

  As I’ve stated earlier, the game that was scheduled for Sunday afternoon was postponed. A rescheduling of the game has yet to happen. The Cardinals will wrap up their homestand this week with a quick two game series with the Minnesota Twins. John Lackey will start for the Cardinals (he was originally scheduled to pitch on Sunday). Trevor May will pitch for the Twins.
