This week, the Cardinals will be in Anaheim for a three-game series with the Angels.
In the first game of the series, Hector Santiago will go for the Angels. Santiago made his last start against the Brewers, allowing three runs on eight hits and four walks through 5 1/3. Opposite of Santiago will be Mike Leake, who is still in search of his first win as a Cardinal. Leake allowed four runs through five innings in his last time out against the Phillies.
Starting in place of Garrett Richards — who has a torn ulnar collateral ligament — will be Matt Shoemaker, who was previously optioned to the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees after a subpar April performance. Shoemaker’s last major-league start came on April 30 against the Rangers; Shoemaker lasted 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs. The Cardinals will counter with Jaime Garcia. Garcia blanked the Phillies through seven innings in his previous outing, holding Philadelphia to two hits. In two starts prior, Garcia surrendered seven earned runs.
Toeing the rubber for the Halos in the series finale will be Jered Weaver. Weaver held the Rays to one run through six innings in his last outing. The Angels are really looking for Weaver to step up this season, especially since Richards is out for the year. Though it is Carlos Martinez’s turn in the rotation, Adam Wainwright will get the start for St. Louis. Martinez exited his last start with fatigue, so the Cardinals will spar him extra days of rest. Wainwright’s last start came against the Pirates; he went 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
STL: Stephen Piscotty, outfielder. Piscotty has collected thirteen hits in his last 29 at-bats. In that span, Piscotty drove in six runs.
LAA: Mike Trout, outfielder. Trout has ten hits in his last 27 at-bats with a pair of home runs and ten RBIs.
