This week, the Cardinals and Rockies will meet at Busch Stadium for a three-game series, the first meeting between the two clubs since early August of 2015.
The Cardinals will send Jaime Garcia to the mound in the series opener. Garcia has not allowed an earned run in his last two starts, including a seven-inning outing he turned in against the Angels in Anaheim in his last time out. Opposing Garcia for the Rockies will be Chad Bettis. Bettis faced the Diamondbacks in his last outing and allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Adam Wainwright will start for St. Louis in the second game of the series. Wainwright started against the Angels in his last start and was not particularly sharp, though he did collect the win. Wainwright surrendered six runs on ten hits and a walk in five innings. Starting for Colorado will be Chris Rusin. Rusin took on the Diamondbacks in his last start and allowed four runs on a ten hits in just under six innings.
In the series finale, Michael Wacha will start for the Cardinals. Wacha faced the Dodgers in his last start and lasted just four innings. Wacha allowed two earned runs, but the defense behind him was not sturdy, and the Dodgers scored a total of four runs through four. Jon Gray will tab the nod for the Rockies. Gray faced the Mets in his most recent start and held the defending National League champions to two runs in seven innings while striking out eight.
COL: Nolan Arenado, third baseman. Arenado is slugging .533 over his last seven games with two doubles, a triple, and a home run, his thirteenth of the season.
STL: Yadier Molina, catcher. Over his last 26 at-bats, Molina has six RBIs and eleven hits, including four doubles.
