This weekend, the Cardinals are in Milwaukee for a three-game series with the Brewers. The Cardinals hosted the Brewers at Busch Stadium last weekend; St. Louis swept the series.
Jimmy Nelson will toe the rubber in the series opener for the Brewers, his second straight start against the Cardinals. Nelson allowed three earned runs in his six-inning outing on Saturday, July 2. Hurling for the Cardinals will be Michael Wacha. Wacha faced the Brewers in the teams’ series finale on Sunday, July 3. Wacha turned in five innings and surrendered two runs while punching out six.
In the middle game of the series, the Brewers will go with Chase Anderson. Like teammate Nelson, Anderson’s previous outing came against the Cardinals. Anderson went 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on five walks and four hits. His counterpart will be Carlos Martinez. Martinez was the tough-luck loser in his previous start, one where he spun seven innings against the Pirates and allowed three runs, which all came via the long ball.
The finale of the series and last game before the All-Star break, Junior Guerra will toss the ball for Milwaukee. Guerra held the Nationals to two hits in 7.1 innings on July 4, walking two and striking out seven. Mike Leake will pitch for the Cardinals. Leake allowed five runs in his last start, a six-inning outing against the Pirates.
Cardinals: Stephen Piscotty, right fielder. Piscotty is batting .333 over his previous seven game with three homers and eight runs driven in.
Brewers: Ryan Braun, left fielder. Braun owns a .321 batting average in his most recent seven games with four RBIs.
